As the country is set for the fresh polls the ruling Democratic Progressive Party DPP has announced its alliance with the United Democratic Front UDF.
Speaking during the announcement of the alliance, DPP president Prof Arthur Peter Muthalika said he has made the decision after observing that both parties share the same values.

On his part UDF president Atupele Muluzi said the two parties have demonstrated that it is possible to work together in the advancement of the country’s developmental agendas as was the case last year where he served on different ministerial positions under the DPP led government.
Meanwhile, political analyst has commended the UDF/DPP political alliance as a good strategy to win the presidential election.
Blantyre based political scientist Sherif Kaisi has said “the electoral alliance symbolizes the politics of regionalism that Malawi is experiencing.”
Kaisi sad UDF/DPP alliance has materialized with the fact that both parties command majority support in southern and Eastern region.
