MAM advises president Chakwera against establishing diplomatic mission in Jerusalem.
Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has joined Palestine in asking state president Dr.Lazerous Chakwera to maintain its diplomatic mission in Tele Aviv and not in Jerusalem.
The Malawi Muslims mother body has echoed its stand on the matter after the Malawi president through state house director of communication Sean Kampondeni told journalists in Mzuzu that the president’ decision to establish diplomatic mission in Jerusalem is intact.
The development also comes few days after Palestine south African based ambassador and special envoy to Malawi met the president to rescind his decision.
Speaking to Radio Islam, MAM publicity Secretary Sheik Dinala Chabulika emphasized that Muslim in Malawi are not against the president’s decision to establish bilateral relations with Israel since Malawians do benefit from such international relations.
“what people should know is that Muslims have not problem for this government to have diplomatic relationship with Israel, this country has benefited a lot from Israel. But would have been happy if the embassy is maintained in Tele Aviv than going to Jerusalem, ” explained sheikh Chabulika.
Meanwhile, international Relations analyst Professor Happy Kayuni from Chancellor College says Malawi already has strong tie with Israel, hence it would be better if government avoided Jerusalem.
