Chikwawa Nkombedzi legislator supports 2,500 households with food items

Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi Hon. Abida Mia has distributed over 2500 food packs to the hunger stricken households in her constituency and Chikwawa South.

Mia who is also the Deputy Minister of Lands has also distributed other food packs to patients who have been admitted at Ngabu Rural Hospital located in her constituency.

The Member of Parliament said the donation comes as a way of alleviating hunger which has affected many people in the part of Lower Shire as a result floods and erratic rains the area experiences

The donation includes the of maize flour, sugar, cooking oil and salt

In an interview soon after the distribution which took place at Makande Main Masjid in Ngabu, Mia stated that the decision to distribute the food items was derived from the fact that people in the district face the same challenges regardless of their choice of religion or  political affiliation.

She also said “the items have been shared with people of Chikwawa South because they are my neighbours and are facing the same challenges”.

The Deputy Minister then urged people of good will to join the government in working towards food alleviation in the country.

She emphasized that the distribution packs were not enough for the beneficiaries and encouraged other organizations to work together against hunger.

Mia sourced the food donation from a friend Abdul Gaffar Ayub who is based in the United Kingdom.

During the dry season the country experiences food shortages, Chikwawa is one of the most affected districts due to the hazardous floods.
