Mpiri primary school closed over misunderstandings on Hijjab.

Mpiri primary school in Machinga has been closed over misunderstandings on Hijjab.

According to concerned parents since the reopening of schools on Monday girls have been sent back for putting on hijjab.

They said things went out of hand yesterday after unknown youths allegedly assigned by the head teacher of the school, forcibly asked the girls to remove their hijjab.

It is alleged that the boys also fought parents of the girls after they went to seek clarification on the issue from the school.

The community has since asked for the transfer of the head teacher.

In an interview with radio Islam one the concerned parent Ibrahim Uladi said they have been engaging relevant authorities but to no avail.

Uladi said all they want is to see change therefore will do everything possible to ensure that their children acquire education.

“Following the incident education authorities’ visited the school and assured them that will look into their concerns and deliver to the rightful office,” Uladi said

Meanwhile hijjab taskforce executive member Abdul Salam Fadeck said it is disturbing to note that some civil servants are taking sides instead of handling the issue with caution.

When asked on the matter district education manager for Machinga said the issue has reached his office but referred us to ministry of education

Last year Mmanga primary school and other seven schools in Machinga were also closed following disagreements between Muslims, Catholics and Anglicans over wearing Hijab
