Ministry reviews public finance management act

Ministry of Finance says is reviewing public finance management act to strengthen oversight function of budget implementation

Secretary to treasury Chancy Simwaka speaking during a meeting with parliamentary committee on budget and finance said they had come to that decision after noting that some government agencies and departments do not report how they use public resources.

Simwaka said there is need to put in place laws and measures that ensure government institutions provide reports to prevent misuse of public money

“The Ministry is coming up with ways of paying back debt so that the country can fund its budget without borrowing,” said Simwaka

Chairperson of budget and finance committee of parliament Shadreck Namalomba said they will start taking into account government institutions that misuse public resources.

Cluster committees of parliament are scrutinizing the 2020 to 2021 national budget which was presented in parliament by Minister of finance Felix Mlusu.
