High court judge Kenyatta Nyirenda has granted a seven day injunction to Human rights defenders coalition against the 21 day lockdown
This means that the lockdown which was expected to begin Saturday night has been suspended
Granting the injunction Judge Nyirenda ordered an interparty hearing within the seven days.
Government introduced the lockdown to minimize movement of people in order to control the spread of coronavirus
Meanwhile, Malawi’s health ambassador has called upon people in the country to be vigilant of COVID-19 amid the injunction against the 21 day lockdown
Maziko Matemba has made the call after High court judge Kenyatta Nyirenda granted injunction to Human Rights Defenders Coalition Friday
Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, Matemba said “Malawians should be careful of the pandemic as it spreads faster, does not have treatment and Malawi does not have enough medical supplies.”
Meanwhile, law expert Osman Kennedy said the injunction is just a temporary relief and an opportunity to review the case before implementation of the lockdown
