Speaking during an orientation meeting with the district executive committee in Mangochi, program manager for CRECOM Jeffrey Kamanga said that the project had come to rescue girls from poverty, negative cultural attitudes and eliminating some harmful traditional practices that hinder their education.
Kamanga added that “the project which is expected to phase out in June 2017 intends to enhance attendance and reduce dropout rate in standard 7 and 8 classes in order to achieve gender parity in secondary level.”
He promised that they will be giving every girl K6, 000 at the end of each term.
