Polytechnic Hostel burnt in students’ demonstrations
One of the hostels at Polytechnic has been burnt during students demonstrations to force management to increase security.
The protests started Tuesday morning as the students were angry with continued break-ins at the university hostels.
Speaking to radio Islam, president of the students Union Kunozga Mlowoka said “the thieves broke into the universities off campus hostel at Chichiri where they went away with laptops, phones and cash during the night of 26th November.”
The students blocked Masauko Chipembere Highway which forced police to fire tear gas to disperse them.
Meanwhile, Mlowoka says the students had agreed with Management that they change the security company as the current one is not helping or else beef up security by hiring armed police with effect from today.
