Govt identifies NICE Trust for National Registration and Identification Programme
Government says it has identified the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust to conduct public awareness and sensitization for the National Registration and Identification Programme in the country.
Director of National Registration in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) Peter Chitedze said this when he opened a two day training for NICE Volunteers in Thyolo District.
Chitedze observed that since registration was an on-going process that would never come to an end, there was need also for rapid public awareness and civic education programmes that would complement the programme.
He noted that NICE volunteers will work hand in hand with National Registration Bureau (NRB) in disseminating information concerning the importance of national registration.
The director, however, added that despite the successful achievements of the programme, the programme is facing some challenges that include inadequate technical and financial resources and lack of awareness on the importance and value of registration by the public.
Thyolo district has got 238 Nice Volunteers, 790 villages and 14 Traditional Authorities.
Similar trainings have been conducted in ten districts of Zomba, Phalombe, Balaka, Chiradzulu, Neno, Machinga, Salima, Dedza and Rumphi.
