Governance Expert Calls For Amendment of Malawi’s Constitution
Governance expert has called for amendment of section 80 sub section 4 of the constitution of Malawi which empowers the president to appoint running mate.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam executive director of Umunthu foundation David Odali said “it is high time the country gave powers to parliament to analyze and approve the person as is in other countries.”
However, odali says the process of amendment is not an easy task hence might take a lot of time.
In a separate interview one of the law experts in the country says “there is need for political will in order to stimulate the relationship between the president and his vice.”
Professor of law at Chancellor Collage Edge Kanyongolo said the problem is not the law but the way politicians use it.
