Cattle Market Suspended Over Foot & Mouth Outbreak
Cattle market in Mponela, Dowa district has been suspended over foot and mouth outbreak.
Programs manager for Kasungu Agriculture Development Division Kapelemera Phiri says the suspension aims at controlling further spread of the disease.
“The outbreak has been noted in many areas across Dowa district,” Phiri said
Meanwhile the district commissioner for Dowa Alex Mdooko has appealed to chiefs, councilors and MPs of the district to disseminate the ban to their people.
“I urge all stakeholders in the district to work hand in hand with the police in arresting those flouting the enforced ban of cattle market in the district,” Mdooko said
The ban follows the one which was issued by Ministry of Agriculture after suspected foot and mouth disease in Lilongwe.
Some months ago government also banned the sell and movement of livestock in Neno, Mwanza and Balaka districts because of foot and mouth outbreak.
