Islamic Relief Malawi launches Youth Development project

Islamic Relief Malawi in corroboration with Young Achievers for Development (YAD) drills 100 youths in leadership and issues of drug and substances abuse.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday after the launch of the project called Youth Development for Social Change and well-being; country representative for Islamic Relief, Sherifa Mia said the 100 youths have been trained to be peer educators and agent of change in their communities.

Mia further said “13 million kwacha, the project which is getting funding from Islamic Relief Germany is expected to change lives of young Malawians into productive citizens.”

In his remarks Director for YAD Jefasoni Milanzi commended Islamic Relief for the financial support adding that the project is expected to yield great result as the peer educators will influence change in others.

“The training will help the youths to make informed decision and encourage them to focus on their education,” Milanzi said

Representing the youth Henry Nyoni thanked the two organizations for the training.

“I will use the skills and knowledge gained to bring positive change into lives of other youths in their areas,” promised Nyoni

The training drew together youths from Zingwangwa, Soche, Manje and Chilomoni townships in Blantyre.

Islamic Relief Malawi will run the project for one year and is expected to cover districts of Chikwawa, Chradzulu, Zomba, Machinga and Balaka where the organization is also implementing other projects.
