High Court Grants Injunction Against Malawi Opposition Convention

High court has granted injunction to suspended MCP senior officials restraining the party and its president from holding the convention.

The suspended MCP officials are secretary general Gustave Kaliwo, speaker of parliament Richard Msowoya, Jessie Kabwira, James Chatonda Kaunda and Tony Kandiero.

They applied for the injunction after the high court in Blantyre ruled in favour of the party on the first injunction which the suspended group obtained on the same issue.

A court injunction granted by Judge Mike Tembo says “if the defendants disobey they risk being found guilty of contempt of court therefore may be sent to prison or fined.”

The injunction further says the defendants may within 48 hours apply to the court to vary or discharge the order.
