Police Recovers AK 47 Rifle from Mozambicans

Police in Namwera, Mangochi district have recovered an AK 47 Rifle and unregistered san LG motorcycle.

Public relations officer for Mangochi police Inspector Rodrick Maida said the rifle and motorcycle were found at Chonde estate premises.

Maida said police personnel received a tip from the general public that two unknown culprits from Mozambique armed with the rifle were planning to come to Malawi.

“Police officers organised themselves and found the two Mozambican culprits riding unregistered san LG motor cycle and carrying a carton where the rifle was hidden. Upon being stopped they dropped the carton as well as the motorcycle and run away to different directions,” Maida explained.

He further said inquiries are underway to trace and arrest both suspects.

Police in Mangochi therefore has commended the general public for the tip because the AK 47 rifle would be used to terrorize Mangochi in particular and Malawi as a whole.
