Malawi Congress party fires ex-spokesperson
Malawi Congress party MCP has fired if former publicity secretary Dr Jersey Kabwira and confirmed the suspension of vice president Richard Msowoya, secretary general Gustavu Kaliwo as well as two others.
This was announced on Tuesday at a press conference held at the party’s national headquarters in Lilongwe.
The conference was organized to reveal the resolutions which were made by the MCP’s national executive committee meeting held on January 28 2018 which focused on three topical issues of discipline, appointments and the party’s national convention.
Addressing the media the newly appointed publicity secretary Ezekiel Ching’oma said the decision to suspend other members of the party was not made by the president but all members of the national executive committee.
“The committee agreed to fire Kabwira and suspend Msowoya, Kaliwo, Tony Kandiero and James Chatonda pending conclusions of disciplinary hearing,” said Ching’oma.
He said the suspension is only for their positions but not party membership therefore they will get back the posts when the party finds them not guilty excluding Kabwira who is no longer a member of MCP.
On appointments Ching’oma said “the party has appointed him as a publicity secretary and Maurice Munthali as his deputy.”
He added that the party has also appointed Widford Tsulamowa as administrative secretary and Eisenohower Mkaka as the secretary general.
Ching’oma therefore called upon the suspended members to come for a disciplinary hearing where they can defend themselves.
“MCP will continue working with members who abide by its constitution in order to promote unity, loyalty, mobility and discipline,” Ching’oma said
He then urged journalists not to rely on social media because some people are creating and spreading false information in order to damage image of the party.
MCP is expected to hold its national convention from 4th to 8th April 2018.
