Paramount Chikulamayembe attacks other paramounts
Paramount chief Chikulamayembe of Rumphi district has faulted traditional leaders who attacked Public Affairs Committee PAC for organizing a peaceful demonstration against government’s failure to table electoral reforms bills in the current sitting of parliament.
According to Chikulamayembe PAC is an organisation that has been and is fighting for a conducive political environment in the country therefore the need to be respected.
He was speaking this at his home in Rumphi during a meeting.
Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe advised Traditional leaders not to be used by politicians saying they will lose respect and trust from their subjects as well as Malawi as a whole.
“PAC is not a political organisation and is voice always aimed at bringing a conducive political environment that will bring peace in the country,” said Chikulamayembe
The Tumbuka leader also reminded his fellows that PAC’s voice is for Malawians not individuals or political parties.
Recently a group of chiefs through their forum voiced against PAC decision to petition President Professor Peter Mutharika and speaker of parliament to table the bill in the ongoing parliament session.
According to the chiefs who include paramount Ngolongoliwa, Lundu and Kyungu PAC’s decision was not representing Malawians but themselves.
“PAC is a political party organisation that has its own agenda,” concurred the paramount chiefs.
However, only three paramount chiefs namely Chikulamayembe, Inkosi Yamakosi Gomani and Mbelwa used to distance themselves from such issues.
Commenting on the development youth activist Steven Simsokwe said some senior chiefs in the country prioritise money that the welfare of their own subjects.
Meanwhile, PAC said it is ready with the demonstration which will be held on 13 December, 2017.
