An Economic Expert Adam Chikapa Gaesi has advised government to promote and strengthen its ties with other countries and donors, in order to ensure sustainability of the country’s economy and achieve its development agenda.
Gaesi has said this following American president’s recent announcement that his country will pull out from the United Nation and international organizations.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, Gaesi said government should put more focus on networking with its development partners as already shown by the country’s Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha so that may not suffer too much as a result of the development.
“Yes this can affect the country in terms of the economy because government relies on donor funding from US based United Nations Organizations in some development activities. But, you can agree with me that recently, we have seen the minister of finance going out of the country to have meetings with other donor countries so we cannot say Malawi will suffer too much as a result of this America pulling out,” said Gaesi
He also hinted on the need for the government to look for alternative measures of sourcing funds without depending on donors.
