Parliament has adjourned sine die after five weeks of the 2025–2026 Mid-Year Budget Review meeting
In his closing remarks, Leader of the House Jappie Mhango assured the House that DPP government will fulfil promises it made to Malawians.
He said President Professor Peter Mutharika is working to rebuild the country’s economy, which he argued was left in disarray by MCP administration.
“Current government has come to serve interest of Malawians and deliver promises we made,” Mhango says
Leader of Opposition Simplex Chithyola Banda admitted that expecting current administration to resolve economic and social challenges within three months is unrealistic.
He said they are giving government space to prove that it can perform over the next five years.
Chithyola expressed hope that government will implement a clear economic recovery plan to address the challenges the country is facing.
Among other businesses, Parliament passed the revised 2025–2026 national budget; Taxation Amendment; Constitutional Amendment and Loan Authorisation Bills for various projects.
