As Malawi commemorates world disability day Tsogolo Lowala Foundation has stressed importance of unlocking potential of people with disabilities towards national development
The foundation’s trustee Gloria Kampondeni says that people with disabilities continue to face discrimination and are often undervalued
She emphasised the need for organisations to support people who are deaf so they can fully participate in society
In her remarks director of Chifundo, Chilungamo, Chitukuko Sister Anna who supported the vocational training applauded the graduates for their dedication and urged them to utilize the skills gained
She said has used at least 6 million kwacha to train the people and extended continued support to them as they develop their entrepreneurship skills
Malawi Human Rights Commission MHRC has called for coordinated action to build inclusive, accessible and equitable societies where no one is left behind.
Commissioner of MHRC Boniface Massa says despite Malawi’s strides in ensuring that persons with disabilities enjoy their human rights there is still more that needs to be addressed.
The commissioner cited low representation and appointment of persons with disabilities in leadership as well as other political and higher positions in public institutions including the list of beneficiaries of social safety net programs.
