UTM Secretary General Released on Bail

Lilongwe magistrate court has granted bail to secretary general of UTM Party Patricia Kaliati after charging her with the offence of conspiring to murder President Lazarus Chakwera

Chief Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe ordered Kaliati to pay 1 million kwacha bail bond and appearing at police station

Michongwe said Kaliati conspired with two others who are at large, Joseph Odala and Frank Chinedu between March and June 2024

The state had earlier asked the court to give it seven more days to hold investigations therefore Kaliati should continue being in custody which was objected by the defense.

In his ruling this afternoon Principal Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe said if the investigation had not been finished by Thursday 24 October 2024, the arrest would have not happened, as the proper order is investigattion, arrest then prosecution.

Kaliat has therefore been ordered to pay 1 million kwacha cash bond, surrender travel documents and to be checking in at police headquarters every two weeks on Monday among other bail conditions.
