UTM Presidential candidates to pay 20 Million Kwacha Nomination Fees
UTM has justified its fees for the 17th November elective conference.
This comes a day after the party announced fees for nominations of those vying for different positions from 20 million kwacha for party president, 10 million kwacha for vices and others ranging from 1.5 to 5 million kwacha.
Party spokesperson, Felix Njawala says the party does not have any donors that fund its activities adding that it has always been the members and they are optimist that true patriots of the party will not find it difficult to pay the fees.
He says they have not received any complaints from the members of the party regarding the fees a thing which he says shows that they are all in agreement with.
“Unlike other political parties that have already held their conventions all positions will be contested urging delegates to submit their nomination papers before Wednesday 30 October,” Njawala.
Reacting to the development, Political analyst has the fees as prohibitive.
According to Thindwa, UTM should realize that democracy requires inclusiveness but wonders if the party has set the fees to limit people or to raise funds for the convention
He adds that political parties should not raise the fees just to reserve the top positions for the well do in society.
