TAM cautions Government against Misinformation on Fuel Importation

Transporters Association of Malawi TAM has asked government through MERA to avoid misinformation on fuel importation deals.

In a statement TAM says it is concerned with fuel scarcity in the country adding fuel importers, Petroleum Importers Limited and National Oil Company of Malawi are struggling to pay their suppliers due to lack of forex.

Speaking with radio Islam, spokesperson of TAM Frank Banda said their trucks are currently at ports in Beira and Dares Salam waiting to load but they are delaying because of outstanding payments between fuel importers and suppliers.

“It is important for government through MALAWI Energy Regulatory Authority MERA to understand logistical requirements for fuel and avoid any disinformation on fuel importation deals,” says Banda

Meanwhile, economic expert Adam Chikapa Gaisi has warned that fuel scarcity in Malawi is likely to disturb people’s businesses.

Chikapa said the development can cause the rise in prices of goods and services on the market as some people will take advantage of the current situation.

He then advised government to rectify the fuel shortage problem adding authorities must practice austerity measures to curb shortage of forex.
