Parliament agrees to report on fuel prices hike
Parliament has agreed to a report of natural resources committee which recommended upward adjustment of fuel prices and backed by Consumers Association of Malawi CAMA
Members of parliament for government side have agreed to the report in the absence of opposition lawmaker who walked out in rejection of the fuel price hike
The report was presented by chairperson of the committee Werani Chilenga who said Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority has a huge debt whose part was obtained by the previous government
Commenting on the report before walking out of parliament MP for DPP in Blantyre City East Sameer Suleman called for resignation of executive director of CAMA John Kapito and join politics under MCP party because is not serving Malawians
Suleman asked president Chakwera to cancel his trip to Africa China summit because Malawians are suffering
Shadrick Namalomba said DPP is not part and parcel of the upward adjustment of fuel prices
On his part leader of the house in parliament Richard Chimwendo Banda stressed that Chakwera will attend a summit in China because that country has helped Malawi in various development projects
Meanwhile spokesperson of MERA Fitina Khonje says fuel importers are not making enough gains as prices of importing the commodity are very high.
“MERA board will analyse the situation to come up with a conclusion on the matter,” Khonje
