Parliament demands Malawi to release report on Chikangawa plane crash investigation

Members of parliament have demanded government to release a report on investigation of the plane crash in Chikangawa forest that killed former vice president and 8 others

The independent investigation was done by experts from Germany who came to Malawi and interviewed some authorities including of Malawi Defense Force and Aviation Department

But in an interview with an international media recently President Lazarus Chakwera said his government received the report

This has prompted leader of opposition in parliament Dr George Chaponda to demand government to release the report

However, in his response Leader of the house in parliament Richard Chimwendo Banda said government has not received any official report on the results of the investigation regarding the plane crash

Chimwendo said the Germany experts only debriefed government and families of the people who died in the plane accident

However, Chaponda told Chimwendo that he is contradicting with the president who told the world that the report was presented to government

Meanwhile in a statement Minister of information says Germany has communicated to government that it will publish the interim report on its website on 30th August this year.

Commenting on the matter chairperson of Centre for Human rights and Rehabilitation Michael Kaiyatsa, says government should release the report as soon as possible whether it is official or preliminary since Malawians are waiting to know the truth

Reacting on the matter executive director of Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative Sylvester Namiwa encourages Malawians to continue forcing government until it releases the report because are still in grief with the plane crush.

In a related development Social Action for Development a local NGO based in Mzuzu has written ambassador of Germany Embassy requesting clarification on the submission of the investigation report to Malawian authorities

Executive director of Social Action for Development Isaac Ziba has asked her Excellency Ute Kong to confirm the date when the report was submitted to government, actual findings and the recommendation

Ziba says is deeply concerned that the report has not been made public leaving many Malawians without answers regarding the plane accident
