Aircraft crashes in Lake Malawi with 3 foreign passengers
An Aircraft has crashed in Lake Malawi enroute from Nkhotakota district to Liwonde in Machinga district on Tuesday August 20, 2024.
According to government the plane had on board three foreign passengers being one crew member and two passengers
Minister of information Moses Kumkuyu says the C210 type aircraft registration number 7QPFU belongs to Nyasa Express company
Kumkuyu says the Aircraft left Tongole in Nkhotakota at 14:00 hours and was supposed to land Makhanga at 15:15 hours.
A female Dutch passenger has survived the accident with minor injuries after being rescued by local fishermen and is currently being treated in the hospital in the district.
The Aircraft is reported to have crashed at the Northeast of Benga and it ditched into Lake Malawi but close to the shores
Meanwhile the Aircraft has been sighted under water surface and rescue efforts are underway and to pull the aircraft ashore
