The national elective conference for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is underway at COMESA Hall in Blantyre.
Speaking at the official opening, the party’s president, Prof Peter Mutharika has urged the delegates to vote for people with integrity and committed to serve Malawians.
Prof Mutharika said DPP is the only hope for Malawians that will bring change and for that to happen delegates need to elect party leaders who are capable and corruption free.
He also appealed to delegates to give more room for the women and youth to take up positions.
The former President has also said next year’s elections will be the only opportunity for Malawians to vote for the restoration of the country’s economy.
Mutharika said the Malawi Congress Party led government has failed the failed Malawians.
He therefore called on Malawians to vote for food security, adequate medicines and get rid of the economic woes and political harassment the country is going through.
The conference has been convened under the theme, ‘A return to Proven Leadership: A call to all Malawians in Restoring Hope, Rebuilding the Economy and Healing Fractured Unity of our Nation.’
