Court resumes hearing case of amputated boy vs police officers

Mulanje magistrate court has resumed hearing a case in which two police officers are accused of neglect of duty, causing grievous harm and common assault which led to the amputation of a 13-year-old boy’s hands

Magistrate of Glory Mwatiwamba has held that the Police officers at Misanjo Police Unit Charles Mbewe and Stanley Chigaru allegedly held the boy in custody with both his hands tied by an errastic rubber that led to some injuries on the hands.

The boy was arrested for allegedly stealing money from a local businessperson, Mabvuto Chikhwaza.

Counsel Chancy Gondwe who represents the police officer Mbewe in the case has cross-examined the boy in the court room.

Initially, it was the right hand and two fingers of the left hands that were amputated but now the whole left palm is also gone.

The boy has confessed before the court that he stole money from the businessman but did not count them.
