Justice Minister withdraws Parties funding Regulations’ Publishing
Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo has withdrawn a decision to publish new regulations made by Centre for Multiparty Democracy CMD regarding political parties funding and handouts during electoral campaign
Mvalo announced the withdrawal after the ruling and opposition members of parliament clashed on the proposal to publish the regulations
Member of Parliament for Thyolo central Ben Phiri said consultations were already made with various stakeholders and secretary generals of political parties agreed on the matter
In her comment Member of Parliament for Machinga East Esther Jolobala called for consideration of the youth and women empowerment when publishing the CMD regulations
But MP for Lilongwe South Peter Dimba said the regulations will bring confusion in parliament therefore thorough consultations should be made before presenting them for deliberations
Dimba said no one will approve those laws except MP for Thyolo central but Phiri said the Lilongwe legislator resigned from his position of chairperson of parliamentary committee on legal affairs because of corruption
Leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda said it is a requirement by law that all regulations be scrutinized by legal affairs committee before publishing them
Therefore the justice minister promised to consult and consider the appeal by Jolobala before publishing the regulations
