Magistrate Commits Murder Case to High Court, No Evidence Connecting Minister

Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda has committed to High Court a case in which Lester Maganga is accused of murdering Allan Witika, the former Sales Manager for Coca-Cola Company.

Nyirenda says High Court well positioned to hear the case and other applications because magistrate which is the lower court has no such powers.

Earlier, the state asked the court to remand Maganga to Maula Prison for 90 days to allow police complete their investigations on the matter.

However, lawyer for the accused, Innocent Kubwalo says he will file for a bail application to High Court.

Police arrested Maganga, who is Personal Assistant to Information Minister, Moses Kunkuyu and charged him with murder

Meanwhile, Malawi Police Service has said there is no evidence that information Moses Kumkuyu is connected to the murder of Witika

Public relations officer for the service Peter Kalaya says police does not have any evidence connecting Kunkuyu to any of the cases it is investigating

Kalaya says the service is currently following up on those behind the malicious audio clips and when arrested they will be prosecuted according to electronic transactions and cyber security act

The police has strongly warned the public against creating and circulating false information on social media pertaining to ongoing investigations of murder cases
