Malawi-EU Launch Energy Project
Malawi has launched a 3 billion kwacha European Union (EU) – Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) Twinning Project to strengthen capacity of the latter in the next two years.
This is a Programme where EU has established a strategic partnership between MERA and Italian as well as Slovakia energy regulators
Speaking at the launch in Lilongwe Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola said the Programme will strengthen MERA’s operations that ensure fair tariffs and protection of consumers
EU Ambassador to Malawi, Rune Skinnebach, said EU supports Malawi’s long-term development plan and enhancing access to energy.
He said this is EU’s first Twinning Project in energy sector in Africa under a Team Europe Initiative
