Lunzu Secondary School Students Poisoned
Blantyre district health and social services has said 131 students were affected by suspected food poisoning at Lunzu Secondary School
According to director of the office Dr Gift Kawalazira among them 53 were handled as out patients at Kadidi health centre while 78 were treated at Mlambe Mission Hospital
Dr Kawalazira said 42 were admitted for close monitoring but none of them was critically ill after developing diarrhea
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident may have resulted from Nsima that was given to the students in the evening that was not thoroughly cooked or flour with maize preservation chemicals
Going forward the school suspended provision of Nsima but Rice as they conclude their investigations
Dr Kawalazira assured parents and guardians that his office was well prepared to support the affected students.
