Son of veteran politician to contest in 2025 elections

The son of veteran politician the late Aleke Banda has officially announced his bid for the presidency in 2025 elections as an independent candidate.

Thoko Banda has announced during a press briefing in Lilongwe days after Malawi Electoral Commission released the calendar for next general elections

Addressing reporters Banda said the wealth of the nation should directly benefit its citizens, emphasizing that resources of Malawi should primarily serve Malawians.

He said his vision, the ownership of Malawian land should remain in the hands of Malawian citizens.

Furthermore, Banda believes that elected officials should be barred from engaging in business activities while in office.

Additionally, he proposes limiting salaries of elected officials to no more than ten times the minimum wage, with the aim of promoting equitable compensation within government.
