Court orders state to comply with Banking Act

As the corruption case involving former president Dr Bakili Muluxi continues, Blantyre High court has ordered the state to abide by Banker’s book of evidence Act.

Speaking after the meeting at the court’s chamber, spokesperson of the judiciary Mlenga Mvula said the judge Maclean Kamwambe adjourned the case to Thursday 29th September, to allow the state bring original bank documents that will be tendered as evidence during the next meeting.

“The judge will on the same date also decide on the defence’s application about taking the case to the constitutional court,” said Mvula.

Dr Bakili Muluxi and his former personal assistant are answering charges of corruption amounting to 1.7 billion kwacha which they are alleged to misappropriate.

However, key witness in the case, in earlier court appearances could not prove that the money was corruptly obtained as alleged.
