Malawi President hosts IMF Deputy Managing Director
President Lazarus Chakwera has hosted International Monetary Fund delegation led by First Deputy Manager, Ms. Gita Gopinath at Kamuzu Palace.
The delegation is in the country to appreciate Malawi’s economic recovery efforts following a myriad of inconveniences due to external shocks including natural disasters
Chakwera appreciated the trust IMF has placed in his administration based on the tough and bold decisions he has taken to resuscitate the economy.
The President said the multilateral development bank has assured Malawi of its commitment to help in finding solutions to current economic challenges and attainment of satisfactory credit sustainability.
He told IMF team that Malawi remains determined and focused to grow the economy and build sustainable communities in line with Malawi Vision 2063 agenda.
Chakwera hopes that the discussions IMF mission is undertaking with Reserve Bank of Malawi and Ministry of Finance will progress into clarity of a new Extended Credit Facility.
