Malawi announces launch of Presidential Compact on Water and Sanitation
Malawi has announced the launch of a Presidential Compact on Water and Sanitation, a significant step forward in improving public health, ending open defecation and increasing climate resilience
The announcement was made in Netherlands during a world water week which gathered thousands of international leaders and experts to address water and sanitation crisis
According to a joint statement by UNICEF, Sanitation and Water for All as well as kingdom of Netherlands the compacts are built upon clear commitments that encompass increased budget allocations, innovative sources of financing and comprehensive plans for construction of vital water and sanitation infrastructure.
In support of the 145 million dollars in funding received from World Bank the compact will provide a blueprint for rebuilding water and sanitation infrastructure and enhancing climate resiliency following the devastation from cyclone Freddy
Apart from Malawi South Sudan also announced the presidential compact on water and sanitation at the same world water week
