TAM condemns llovo Sugar Malawi for awarding contracts to foreign companies

Transporters Association of Malawi TAM has condemned Illovo Sugar Malawi for awarding transportation contracts to foreign companies.

In an interview with radio Islam TAM executive director Frank Banda said Illovo sugar Malawi is awarding sugar transportation contracts to Tanzanian companies yet Malawian transporters have potential to do the same job.

Banda said it is imperative that big companies like Illovo prioritize and invest in local enterprises that TAM believes possess all necessary capacity and technical expertise to handle any volume of sugar to any destination in Africa.

He said by giving preferences to foreign companies, Illovo sugar Malawi is undermining growth of domestic business and disadvantaging local economy.

The TAM executive director therefore, calls upon government authorities, regulatory bodies and stakeholders to foster an environment that encourages and supports local businesses.
