Malawian religious leaders petition parliament against homesexuality
Religious leaders and concerned citizens have presented to parliament and councils a petition against same sex marriages after demonstrating in cities and districts
In the petition the faith leaders say homosexuality is sinful and unnatural therefore legalizing it is a threat to continuity of the society
They have appealed to parliament to review the available policies and legislation through public participation to protect the family and safeguard young people
The religious leaders have requested executive branch of government not to succumb to pressure from other circles and call for a referendum if there is need to change the laws
They have challenged international community to respect sovereignty of Malawi and not dictate values which are conflicting with the country’s religious and cultural beliefs
The faith leaders tell activists pushing for same sex agenda because of money to seriously reflect on their actions and respect GOD’s divine order and will of majority of Malawians
Speaking when submitting the petition in Blantyre, publicity secretary of Muslim Association of Malawi, Sheikh Dinala Chabulika said same sex marriages are against integrity of human beings and the rules of Islam
He described the people practicing these unusual marriages as violators of human natural rights and well being of societies as Malawian culture permits opposite sex marriages only.
Speaking after receiving the petition chairperson of parliamentary committee on legal affairs Yusuf Nthenda promised to present to relevant authorities
The demonstrations have been organized as High court is prosecuting a case to legalise same sex marriages which was applied by a person from Netherlands who sodomised 9 children in an orphanage centre in Malawi
