Sweden condemns Quran burning

Sweden’s government has condemned the burning of Quran outside Stockholm’s main mosque, calling it an “Islamophobic” act

The condemnation came after Organisation of Islamic cooperation called for collective measures to avoid future desecration of the holy book.

The foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday that Swedish government fully understands that the Islamophobic acts committed by individuals at demonstrations in Sweden were offensive to Muslims.

Sweden strongly condemned those acts, which in no way reflect the views of Swedish government.

OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha stressed the need for international community to implement laws that explicitly prohibit the promotion of religious hatred.

Saleh Hamad Saudi representative to OIC said this is the fourth time that a similar incident has occurred in Sweden “under the false pretext of freedom of opinion and expression.”
