Friends of Machinga petition government to terminate School construction contract with Nangaunozge
Friends of Machinga have petitioned government to terminate a contract of Machinga Secondary School construction project with Nangaunoze Company for its alleged failure to complete it since 2018.
In a letter addressed to Secretary of education and signed by the group’s Chairperson Dr. Sinoya Winess, says the contractor has failed to finish his work though he pocketed K1.8 billion out of K2 billion from government to construct 8 hostels for boys and girls as well as a Kitchen at Machinga Secondary School
In April 2021, Vice-President Saulos Chilima ordered Nangaunoze building contractor to finish construction works in 2 months when he toured the School but no progress has been made so far.
According to Sinoya, the group believes the contractor is playing a hide and seek game hence the petition
Commenting on the matter, Machinga Secondary School Senior Teacher White Makwemba said the situation has forced some students to sleep on the floor of unfinished hostels which have no running water and electricity.
However, Ministry of education Spokesperson Mphatso Mkuonera said the ministry is aware of the situation but asked for more time to comment on the matter.
