Leader of opposition asks president not to run away from responsibilities
Leader of opposition in parliament Dr Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked president Chakwera not to run away from his duties and responsibilities as leader of Malawi
Nankhumwa was reacting to the statement which Chakwera made during the opening of the first ever national conference on separation of power where he said is not a driver of the country
He says the president’s sentiment is a sharp contradiction to the remarks he made in 2020 and 2021 where he said the job of a President is running a country and described himself as driver of a minibus.
The leader of opposition tells Chakwera that people of Malawi were waiting for him to deliver the promises he made but is disturbing to hear him accusing Malawians of distorting his job description.
He believes that as Head of State Chakwera must instill hope and confidence in Malawians that he is in control of social and economic systems.
According to him it is no wonder that inflation is rising, forex crisis, looming worst hunger and a contract of hundreds of billions of Kwacha for fertilizer has been awarded to a pharmaceutical company in Romania among many challenges.
He stressed that Malawians want him to run government, not to change his job description in the middle of the journey.
