Minister appeals to power utility bodies in Africa to invest in energy

Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola has appealed to all power utility bodies in Africa to invest more in energy sector saying it is the driver of economy in the region.

Matola said this during official opening of Association of Power Utilities of Africa -APUA Chief Executive Officers Governance and Leadership Forum in Lilongwe

He emphasized the need for African countries to use new technologies and natural resources in energy sector saying these are catalyst for transformation.

The minister thanked leadership of Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) for joining Association of Power Utilities of Africa saying “this will help the country to benefit a lot in terms of energy transition.”

Director of Association of Power Utilities of Africa APUA Abel Didier Tella underscored the need to have energy transition saying it will help to develop Africa as a region

Meanwhile EGENCO Chief Executive Officer William Liabunya said the country must adopt renewable energy as an alternative to hydro electric energy
