Mozambicans traffic Malawians
Machinga police has arrested two Mozambicans and one Malawian for an offense of human and child trafficking contrary to section 79 of child care, protection and Justice Act.
According to public relations officer for Machinga police Davie Sulumba the three are Mailosi Wines aged 42 of Mponda village, Haji Gilemu aged 41 of Mulute village both from T/A Karonga, Mecanhelas, Mozambique and Tenesi Kamanga aged 42 of Nyungo village, T/A Nkoola, Machinga District.
“The first and second suspects met the third suspect to look for people who will work in their farms in Mozambique and the hird suspect complied therefore on 23rd August 2016 he took 18 victims, 9 of them boys 14 to 16 years old, 5 kids 2 to 5 years old and 4 adults,” explained Sulumba.
He added that the victims came from the area of T/A Nkoola and T/A Chikweo.
Sulumba further said on 24th August 2016 they started their journey to Mozambique and when they arrived at Nayuchi in the area of Sub TA Mchinguxa the process of stamping their travelling documents began.
“Sub T/A Mchinguza became suspicious with the age of the victims therefore informed police who apprehended the suspects and detained the victims,” said Sulumba
Machinga police has therefore advised guardians not to allow their kids work in farms as it is against laws of Malawi.
