Center for Democracy Watch asks government to fund Supreme Court of Appeal for Mussa’s case

Center for Democracy Watch-CEDWAT has asked Minister of Finance Sosten Gwengwe to fund Supreme Court of Appeal within 14 days for the judges to continue with Dr Uladi Mussa’s bail application case

This is according to a statement signed by CEDWAT, publicity secretary Hebrews Misomali and national coordinator Levy Luwamba who say there is no way the whole government Machinery can fail to provide funding for allowances and fuel to eleven justices to travel to Lilongwe to hear the case.

The two described the failure of Supreme Court of Appeal to hear Mussa’s case as a political wishful hunting by government.

Meanwhile, CEDEWAT has appealed to State President to seriously consider releasing prisoners on parole during the holy month of Ramadan as it is done during other Christian festive seasons.

In 2022 Supreme Court of Appeal Justice, Lovemore Chikopa reserved his ruling on the former Home Affairs minister’s application to be released on bail pending appeal.

Mussa, former Central Region immigration officer David Kwanjana and businessman Peter Katasya were convicted in October 2020 of fraudulently issuing citizenships and passports to foreign nationals.
