Malawi hosts high level ministerial meeting on cholera, polio
Malawi has been hosting high level ministerial emergency meeting on cholera, polio and climate related health emergencies from 9 to 10 march in Lilongwe
Speaking at the meeting Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima has urged African leaders to focus on ending pandemics such as cholera
Chilima said this on the sidelines of the High level emergency meeting on cholera, polio and climate related public health emergencies in Lilongwe
“I am optimistic that the delegates at the meeting will find solutions that will eliminate cholera outbreak across Africa,” Chilima
He appealed to faith and traditional leaders to take a leading role in imparting to the citizenry proper information on the importance of taking vaccines to avoid current myths
Speaking on behalf of Zambian president Hakainde Hichilema who is the global cholera control champion Zambian minister of health Sylvia Maseko said the meeting will enhance collaboration in order to be more prepared for future outbreaks
In his remarks acting director of Africa centre for disease control CDC Dr Ahmed Ogwell Ouma said Africa Agenda 2063 which was designed to encourage Africa to take charge of its developments can only be achieved if people are in good health
