MAM hands over electric powered water taps and a borehole

Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has handed over two electric powered water taps and a borehole to communities in Blantyre and Balaka districts respectively.

The exercise has been carried as the country is registering an alarming number of cholera cases in which over one thousand people have died.

Speaking to Radio Islam after the handover ceremony, Financial and Administrative Officer at MAM, Fahad Bauleni, said MAM decided to provide water facilities in the three areas after noting that people walk long distances to fetch for water.

Bauleni added that though people walk long distance, the water was also safe for human consumptions.

He therefore advised the beneficiaries to take care of the facilities in order to last longer.

Speaking on behalf on the beneficiaries, Village Headman Chiwasa of Senior Chief Kapeni in Blantyre, expressed her excitement saying is first in her memorial to have such magnificent water facility in her village.

She however asked for more water facilities as her village is comprised of about five hundred families.

On the other hand, Village Headman Juma of Traditional Authority Somba in Blantyre said she is going to establish a committee to look after the facility.

Village Headman Juma said she believes that the coming in of the water project, the water borne diseases like cholera and dysentery will remain history in her area.

The three water projects have been constructed with financial support from the Dubai Charity Association of United Arab Emirates to the tune of 24 million Kwacha.
