Villagers damage Health Centre over cholera
Villagers have injured a health worker and damaged Nandumbo Health Centre cholera camp site while self-discharged patients during the course in Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka District.
Community members stormed the hospital and house of senior health surveillance officer demanding vacation of health workers for allegedly injecting people with cholera contaminated syringes
Balaka district environmental health officer Blessings Chitsime described the development as a challenge to efforts of providing quality health services according to Chitsime
Chitsime said health authorities have organized an emergency meeting with local leaders and different stakeholders to map the way forward
On his part paramount chief kawinga condemned the malpractice and urged government to take action against the offenders
Meanwhile, Liwonde police officer in charge Ulemu Kalua said investigation to arrest people connected to the incident is underway
Nandumbo health center is one of the facilities in Balaka district which have highest number of cholera cases as it has recorded 288 cases and 10 deaths.
