UNICEF delivers lifesaving supplies for Malawi cholera response

UNICEF has delivered lifesaving supplies worthy 300 million kwacha to support cholera outbreak response in Malawi

UNICEF country director Rudolf Schwenk said with over 6000 children already affected and 104 deaths the spread of this outbreak is a threat to health and wellbeing of children

Schwenk said they received support from European civil protection and humanitarian aid operations to secure those supplies

He appreciates the tireless efforts from frontline health and community workers to manage influx of cholera cases

They include acute watery diarrhea kits to support health facilities and communities, high performance tents, compound sodium lactate, doxycycline, paracetamol and cannulas among others

On 12th January government reported 589 new cholera cases making the cumulative number to over 23, 000 since March last year
