Techno Brain Company prints passports despite contract termination

Ministry of homeland security has revealed that is still working with techno brain on passport printing despite termination of its contract last year.

The 50 billion kwacha passport printing contract which was awarded to the company in 2019 was cancelled in December in the wake of irregularities.

However, speaking during face the press in Lilongwe minister responsible Jean Sendeza said the company is still printing passports to allow a smooth transition process.

“Until government finds a company to provide the service at a reasonable fee, passport fees will be revised,” Sendeza

On the process of sending back to Dzaleka refugee camp, refugees and asylum seekers residing in rural and urban areas, Sendeza said the time frame was extended to November this year and February next year respectively.

She said considering the situation at Dzaleka, government is working with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to rehabilitate Lowani camp in Mwanza to accommodate other refugees.

On concerns of delays of national identity card issuance, Sendeza said new printers have been distributed to districts to fast track the process.

She added that more printers will be procured for all 28 districts and recruiting 185 officers to clear the backlog
