Muslim scholars in Malawi to establish Ulama Welfare Fund

In a bid to promote welfare of Muslim scholars in the country, sheikhs are planning to establish Ulama Welfare fund.

In an interview with Radio Islam, publicity secretary for the grouping Sheikh Omar Mkachelenga said the initiative has been hatched after noting challenges the sheikhs and their dependents go through in times of calamities.

Sheikh Mkachelenga said they have been selling the idea to sheikhs since February this year and the response is overwhelming.

He said so far the group has generated 3 million kwacha from over 100 sheikhs.

Sheikh Mkacherenga has therefore encouraged sheikhs in the country to take up the initiative and ensure its success.
