Malawi launches second dose of covid-19 vaccine
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the need for continued adherence to covid-19 preventive measures to ensure that the country does not go in a third wave.
The president was speaking during the launch of the second dose covid19 vaccination excise at Mntunthama state house in Lilongwe.
The president said despite the reduction in infection rate of covid19 cases in the country people should not relax.
He cited the confirmation of the availability of the Indian covid19 variant as sign that the country could be at risk if people stop adhering to the preventive measures.
“People should not be deceived by the miss information going around regarding the vaccines. I and the vice president have lead in getting the second jab to be exemplary,” Chakwera
Malawi launch the first covid-19 vaccination exercise on 11 March 2021 and according to covax people need to get two jabs of the vaccine to ensure maximum protection from the virus.
In her remarks minister of health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda said health workers are going to be the first to get the second jab.
The second jab is administered after 11 weeks after receiving the first, and so far 657, 650 have received the vaccine so far.
